BASA is committed to the values of sustainable production and consumption (SPC) and aims to adhere to the principles of sustainability that are valuable to the members of the British Adhesives and Sealants Association (BASA), their suppliers and their customers.
Through compliance with, and promotion of, these principles, BASA aims to help members adopt the very best practice for SPC related issues.
Objectives
BASA will seek out best principles and practices for SPC and promote to its members so that our industry can:
o Reduce any long-term liabilities in respect of SPC related issues
o Foster the adoption of best practice and corporate social responsibility among adhesive and sealant manufacturers, suppliers and users
o Enhance and maintain the confidence of our industry customers, employees, the communities in which they operate and the public at large, and demonstrate that the adhesives and sealants industry is fully committed to ensuring it is designing, manufacturing and handling our products in a safe and responsible manner
o Highlight the value of adhesives and sealants as part of the ‘whole life’ of products
o Embrace a culture of continual SPC improvement and corporate responsibility.
Purpose
BASA and its members are committed to the safe use and handling of adhesives, sealants and related products and chemicals throughout their life cycles.
By adopting the BASA Sustainability Code and undertaking self-auditing procedures that assure adherence, members ensure that its principles are embodied throughout their organisations.
However, many member companies have their own Codes of Practice with respect to SPC and BASA recognises that each member must exercise its independent judgement to apply the principles of the BASA Code to its own products, customers and business.
Members that apply the BASA Sustainability Code will be able to declare as such to their employees, customers and communities.
